weekend in davis

A few weekends ago, I was up in norcal mainly for an interview at Davis that I thought went good/ok. After a night in Davis, I took a lovely train ride to Emeryville and met my sister. I had eaten a small lunch and was ready for round two when I got there. She took me to two local breweries.

The first was Triple Rock. After perusing their menu and special brews, I went with the Kaiser Soze.
This was my first experience with an imperial stout, and I was surprised to find that it was not heavy like I imagined it to be. I don't have much of a developed palate, but I did taste some wonderful dark fruit in there. And it was delicious. If I could have bought a growler of this to take home, I would have. And at 13%, it went down smooth like brandy (I've never had brandy before, but I imagine it would be like this), and after a few sips, my head started to feel light as a bubble, and a smile slowly stretched from one ear to the other.
Soon enough, the beer munchies arrived. I love nachos. I can have my mind set on something, but if I see a place offers nachos, I'll most likely order it.
It was pretty messy, and overall, I thought a decent plate of nachos.
My sister ordered the garlic fries, which was a huge serving, and we weren't able to finish off both of these appetizers.
We then went off to the Pyramid Brewery. My sister told me an interesting tidbit about Berkley...their water (what their source is I have no idea) has a lot of minerals, so some breweries liked that and set up shop here.
The menu. Lots of things I had never seen before.
I went with the amber ale. Tasty.
They had a spot outside where they show movies sometimes. First time visiting a big brewery...even though I didn't go on a tour or anything like that.
The next morning, I had a slice of apple pie(from where I forget) and two hot dogs from Top Dog before leaving. I really liked the crust on this pie. Please excuse the shitty picture...I tried.
For the few people that actually read the blog, sorry about the lack of updates. And if you were wondering, I made it into UC Davis! I still can't believe it, and it seems everyone I've told is more excited than I am. I suppose it will hit me when I move up there. Special thanks to all my friends and family who read this and helped me w/ my personal statement and interview prep . Couldn't have done it without you. And I can't forget to thank all you bloggers with your kind words as well. =) As much as I loved Kansas State, I've decided to go to Davis...it's just too good of an opportunity to pass up. Looks like I'm going to have to start learning to cook Korean food before I leave in a few months!

Man, I can smell those garlic fries from here! ;o) It does look delicious. Pyramid Hefeweizen is one of the few beers the Missus will drink. I hope everything works out with UC Davis
